Immunity Now! Top Tips for Strengthening Your Immune System

REDUCE STRESS

When you're stressed, your body produces hormones – adrenaline and cortisol – that tax the immune system and affect an area in your brain called the amygdala, which controls emotions like fear.

Andrea Marcellus, a life strategist, fitness expert and author of The Way In (Avrock Press, 2019), shares a technique on how to manage this. "Allow in the extraordinary by making a point to learn something new every day, even if it's just a little thing," she says. "Because when you open up the curiosity center of your brain [the prefrontal cortex], taking in new information, maybe learning a new recipe or trying a new online exercise class, your brain releases good hormones like dopamine, which in turn helps quiet the amygdala, creates a feeling of more calm and perspective, and puts us in a place to put our best foot forward."
